Don Grieger


Don began his painting career in the 1970's and apart from a few workshops taken, is basically self taught. He works primarily in oil and specializes in outdoor landscapes done on location.

He is a native of Niles, Michigan and holds a BSE and MS Degree in Engineering from University of Michigan. He served in the Air Force and has been an Engineering Manager in the private sector. Recently he retired from his position as Professor of Technical Sciences at Genesee Community College, Batavia, New York.

During the summers of 1986 though 1991 he and his wife Louise operated the Grieger Gallery in Rocky Neck Art Colony in Gloucester, MA. They now spend summers traveling extensively on painting expeditions.

His paintings have been entered in numerous national and regional juried exhibitions over the last fifteen years with remarkable success. He is a frequent award winner.

He exhibits regularly in New York City as a member of the prestigious Salmagundi Club. He is a Fellow of the American Artists Professional League, New York City, and a member of the North Shore Arts Association, Gloucester, MA, the Fine Arts League, Buffalo, New York, the Rochester Art Club, the Batavia Society of Artists, and the International Society of Marine Painters, Melbourne, FL.

His paintings and his view on painting appeared in American Artist, January 1992, in a an article "A Conversation with Don Grieger" written by Charles Movalli. A painting vacation taken on a canal boat was covered in an article "Fifty Miles on the Erie Canal" also in American Artist in the Nov. 1994 issue. In addition, he has been the subject of articles on Palette Talk and Where in Boston.

His work hangs in corporate, public and private collections in thirty-five states and throughout Canada as well as in Europe, Australia and South America.
