Guy Leclair

Guy enjoys landscape painting in oils, preferably done outdoors; even in winter. He has been painting for approximately fifteen years, more intensely since his retirement from Foster Wheeler as Director of Welding Development in fall of 1991.

Guy joined the Rochester Art Club by juried admission in 1992, the Batavia Society of Artists and the Penfield Art Association in 1993. He has won awards in recent shows with the Batavia and Penfield groups. He has exhibited with the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts Mini-Galleries.

Guy studied under Leonard Stankunas and the late Walter Humnanik while residing in northeast Pennsylvania, and in this area under John Peisley of Pavilion, NY, and Fred Lipp at the Memorial Art Gallery. He has taken several outdoor painting workshops from the nationally known Gloucester, MA, artist Charles Movalli since 1987.

Guy enjoys painting the local scenery in Livingston, as well as Genesee and Wyoming counties. He resides in Geneseo, NY with his wife Aline, a fiber art enthusiast.

Guy's Painting

When observing Guy Le Clair, think of a seasoned poker player. He’s not afraid of the blank canvas; he is quietly calculating in his approach. He possesses painting wisdom that unless you ask for it, he‘ll keep it to himself.

He lives in Geneseo and has been painting for over 20 years. He has been published in the American Artist, Upstate New Yorker, and the Plein Air Magazine. He also has been featured in the D&C. Guy has taken lessons from Charles Movalli, Don Stone and John Peisley. He is affiliated with the RAC, North Shore Art of Gloucester, Maine and art clubs in Batavia and Penfield. Also, Guy is a member of the Plein Air Painters of Western New York (PAPWNY).

Of great interest to us is his affiliation with the All Weather Gang, a group of men only. We know these guys as a gang of plein air painters dedicated to the cause that accept the luck of the draw as far as weather is concerned. They go out every Saturday, year round no matter what weather card is drawn. We’re sure they’ve drawn plenty of aces, but as we all know, the weather here in Rochester land can be unpredictable. Strong willed souls! Maybe they pack more then coffee in their thermos? Anyway, he knows when to hold them and he knows when to fold them. We’d say this because he has been quoted to say on many an occasion: “Quit now, don’t kill it!” and “Overstate, understate, simplify…never tell the truth.”
